There are many ways to naturally alleviate low back pain, all of which will help reduce medication intake and reliance. We recommend trying the following 7 natural remedies to get rid of low back pain:
Cold/Heat
For immediate relief, apply ice to your lower back to reduce inflammation. Repeat ice packs for 10- 15 minutes three times per day for the first 48-72 hours after the back pain begins.
After 72 hours, apply heat to relax the muscles surrounding your spine. Those muscles will often compensate and seize if there is any sort of strain or injury. Try using a heating pad, sitting in a hot bath, or warm up a cloth bag with rice for a DIY approach.
Yoga
Try yoga that specifically focuses on your lower back and core. Stretching and strengthening these muscles is very important in alleviating pain. You want the muscles surrounding your spine to grow stronger so you become more resistant to a sprain or tweak.
Avoid prolonged static posture
When sitting at a desk for long periods of time, the pressure on your spinal disks increases. Remind yourself to check your posture, get up and stretch, and take a short walk every so often to give your spine and surrounding muscles some relief.
Natural anti-inflammatory drinks
Instead of turning to the normal anti-inflammatory medications, try these natural anti-inflammatory drinks that have more benefits than one:
- Turmeric milk: antioxidant, anti-arthritic, and anti-inflammatory
- Cherry juice: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, improves muscle recovery after exercise
- Ginger-green tea: anti-inflammatory, improves blood circulation
