Arapahoe Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center offers chiropractic care for the relief of pain caused by scoliosis and improve your quality of life. It’s important to understand that scoliosis is absolutely treatable, but it is not technically curable and it requires ongoing care.
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine. Scoliosis is usually caused by growth spurts right before puberty but can also be caused by conditions like cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. Most cases of scoliosis are mild, but some spine deformities continue to get more severe as children grow. Severe scoliosis can be disabling.
Symptoms of scoliosis include uneven shoulders, one shoulder blade that is more prominent than the other, uneven waist, uneven hips, back pain and muscle spasms. Minor cases of scoliosis are typically invisible to the untrained eye. As the degree of curvature increases, scoliosis becomes more noticeable and can cause various health problems.
What are the different types of scoliosis?
- Congenital scoliosis: develops before birth and caused by bone abnormalities.
- Degenerative scoliosis: caused by traumatic injury, bone deformity, or osteoporosis.
- Idiopathic scoliosis: develops unexpectedly and the cause is usually unknown but can be hereditary. This is the most common form of scoliosis.
- Neuromuscular scoliosis: caused by abnormal nerve or muscle formations seen in people with cerebral palsy or spina bifida.
Can chiropractic care help with scoliosis?
Chiropractic care can help reduce pain and discomfort significantly and improve your overall quality of life. In many cases, chiropractic care can prevent further spine curvature and degradation. It is a non-invasive option that can—in some cases—help bring the spine back to its proper posture, completely restoring your spine’s normal function.
Chiropractic adjustments in the hands of a highly experienced chiropractor like we have at Arapahoe Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center will help improve the range of your spinal motion. It can also help eliminate the pressure on your nervous system and help straighten the abnormal sideways curvature of your spine.
